The Monterey Old Fisherman’s Wharf Association is pleased to team up with noted Monterey Bay Fisheries Historian and author, Tim Thomas, who will offer monthly “Wharf Walks” Walking Tours at Fisherman’s Wharf in Montere on the first Saturday of every month from 10:00 AM – Noon, beginning Saturday, March 3, 2012. Tours will meet at the head of Old Fisherman’s Wharf (near the pink “Harbor House” store, #1 Old Fisherman’s Wharf, Monterey. Advance reservations are required. The tour is for ages 10–adult only and the cost is $30 for adults and kids are $15 (10-15 years) Group Rates are also available.

The Buddhist Temple of the Monterey Peninsula hosts the 66th annual Obon Festival. The Festival will take place at the Temple, 1155 Noche Buena Street in Seaside, California. Hours are noon – 7:00pm. The Festival features Japanese foods, entertainment, games for children, bonsai and ikebana exhibits, and Japanese goods and crafts for sale. The day wraps up with a raffle drawing and a grand prize of $1,500. This is a free event, donations accepted. Parking is available across the street from the Temple.

Cyclists can take to the track on their own bikes to experience the thrill of pedaling Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, including the challenging 300-foot climb and awe-inspiring descent down the world-famous Corkscrew. The rides/races are always informal and the 11 turn 2.238 mile course is open to all levels of cyclists. Helmets are required and the cost is $10 per rider.

Lavender Harvest Celebration
Summer has officially arrived and the more than 1,000 lavender plants at Bernardus Lodge are just beginning to bloom. We welcome the arrival of these fragrant flowers during the month of July with our annual Lavender Harvest Celebration. Jane Hendler and Rex Rombach of Ajne Organic Perfumery in Carmel will lead a demonstration of lavender distillation in a traditional glass still. The extracted essential oil is then used to create entirely natural lavender parfum, body care products and home fragrance. Guests will experience an array of lavender essential oils – ranging from France, China, Russia and our own Carmel Valley.
